Pharmacy First

If you have a minor illness, a pharmacy is the first place you should go for advice. You do not usually need an appointment and you can go to any pharmacy. The Pharmacist can give you advice for a minor illness and medicine if they think you need it.

The Pharmacy First service is available to any patient registered with a GP practice in Scotland or you live in Scotland.

NHS Inform

NHS Inform provides health information, including about illnesses, injuries, health conditions and healthy living, and includes self-help guides for many common illnesses and injuries. Visit, phone 0800 22 44 88, or try the webchat option on their website.

NHS Inform at also offers a quick and easy way to find answers to most common health questions, and includes symptom checkers.

If you think you need A&E, but it's not life-threatening, call NHS 24 on 111 day or night.
