Practice Policy on Private Medical Care

Be Tick Aware

Planning your next trip outdoors? 🌳 It’s important to know what you can do to prevent getting tick bites. Ticks are tiny, spider-like creatures which are usually found in wooded areas and long grass. They can painlessly bite and attach to our skin, and some carry the bacteria that causes Lyme disease. Our top tips for avoiding ticks in the outdoors are to: 🥾 Stick to the main paths and be aware when you venture off them 👖 Wear long sleeves and trousers in overgrown areas 🧴 Use insect repellent on your skin and clothing 🔎 After being outdoors, check your skin and clothing for ticks. If you find a tick, remove it carefully with a tick removal device (or fine-tipped tweezers if you don’t have one). If you’ve been bitten and you get a rash or feel unwell, contact your GP as soon as possible. To find out more about ticks and what to do if you’ve been bitten, visit NHS inform. 🔽 www.nhsinform.scot/tick-bites #BeTickAware #LymeDiseaseAwarenessMonth
